Tikona is a majestic fort standing tall at 3,500 ft above sea level, straddling a small part of the mighty Western Ghats, overlooking the approaches and trade routes to Pune and Mumbai on the western side and the Konkan region at the southern side. It’s more important strategically and one realises as we ascend the fort of this significance.
This majestic fort in a triangular shape saw some mighty strikes by the Marathas under the leadership of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj against the Mughals, weakening them and ultimately conquering it.
The route is fairly easy on the steps but originally it was not so easy to capture this fort . It has its own water source 365 days.
Once atop with the monsoon away, the view from above is an artist's delight, a poet's dream and a thinker's place for solitude, its one place to see, admire and reflect, with the wind blowing over you, hair flying, blue sky, green fields below and birds crying out. It’s just the place to be with yourself and even more so with your family. Try reconnecting...
